Default Star Trek XI

http://movies.apple.com/movies/param...-tlr3_720p.mov

Anyone looking forward to watching it? Love scene is :/ but epicness is <3. Zachary Quinto in Spock is going to be great. Hope it's got a lot of success so that ST does die (for now).

not looking forward to but going to watch non-the-less because i am a movie junkie, have to say they have a good line up of actors, as in they pick all the already famous young movie star for this "prequel" thing. So that they might continue to make even more star trek in the future. but I have to say, how many more time can one replace spock? spock is spock, that is why I like and think is ingenious how they eliminated Captain Kirk by sending him off into that vortex of happiness thingy (can't remember the name) and at the same time introducing dr wheel (patrick stewart, I thought they should have done the same if anymore new star trek were to be film. why go back? there are so many more thing that can be done if they go forward instead of going backwards. but thats just imho.

I'm not saying it will be a good or bad movie, but to replace Leonard Nimoy or anyone at all in the original cast (some dead) is just unacceptable.

I'm not a star trek fan, but I've recently finished watching all the star trek movie and is going on to watch the tv series from the very beginning. But I can feel that casting new actors for those characters is not necessary. all those character are near legend status, there's no need for it and the story has so many aspect to explore, legend simply isn't replaceable. Take Terminator Salvation for instant, no arnold.

FYI, ST XI is a sort of "reinvention" of the original idea by J.J. Abrams (the guy behind Alias, Lost, Cloverfield, MI:III) who's trying to breathe new life into the franchise. It's sad that the original franchise "control freaks" (braga and the other one) didn't give more freedom to Manny Cotto (in charge of the brilliant last seasons of Enterprise with the Xindi) and let the franchise die from scenario quality starvation. But now that they're gone, it may be refreshing to start anew, even steer the whole idea into a new brand (but same spirit, ST:TNG is a good example of how to stick to the Original series with a new "face").

I agree that Data, Picard (Stewart is too old to do something useful in ST terms, it's been 7 years since Nemesis and 15 years since TNG), Spock, Worf, etc. are irreplacable, but that's not what they're doing here: it's "early" Spock (all the vulcans after Nimoy looked pale, even T'Pol was meh :/ ) and Kirk. ST fans know that their relationship was the topic of MUCH discussion (were they gay?) and I guess J.J. Abrams wants to start from there. Look at this clip:
http://movies.apple.com/movies/param...-clip_720p.mov

I don't like at all the sex scene, it's clealy to appeal to a particular audience (hey geeks love nice shapes) and it's diluting the message, well we'll see. 1 month (or more in UK) to go.

and woahhhhhhh hold the horses, theres no characteristic at all what so ever in that boy's voice to be worthy of playing spock tsk tsk, the short guy beside them has more character lol. sorry but no no eeeewe, but i'm still gonna watch it thou. like watching Alien VS predator, first one was okay, knew the second one would suck but then i just had to know how the spin they story.

god if i can write and create a good and popular, famous money making movie character i die happy, very happy.

According to early reviews from people who got to watch it at one of the conventions (like 500 people!), it's supposed to be an amazing movie, one of the best ST films, and easily one of the best movies in recent times.

I can't wait.

These few hundreds are probably already sold to the cause of reviving ST, they're ready to accept the unacceptable so that the franchise doesn't die. Well, at least I know the sex scene is not so important and annoying . (hated the actress behind 7of9 chosen for her body shape and similarly for T'Pol, but the actress was much better)

(still have to watch Watchmen though...)

I think they should have let the franchise stay dormant for a few more years. I also don't watch that guy's shows so I don't know if it'll be good or not. After seeing Lucas mess up the star wars series, I think I'll pass.

as a semi-trekkie, I truly agree that the franchise needs some seriously new life breathed in. Deep Space Nine was soooooo boring and tired, Enterprise was usually painful to watch, and the last few movies have been forgettable.

It's really sad that there's no TV series going on. I hope this movie is the seed of a new series.

I'm still not getting past the fact that these actors don't sound like the ones who were playing originally and since I've seen the trailer..... I just can't take this.

Hey for all trekkies out there, if you haven't seen it before, the original ST pilot, with lots of comments from Gene himself:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFXt0ZbR_9o

I've heard from many hardcore trekkies that it was dropped in fact because Gene's wife as First Officer was too "hardcore" for that time (1965).

Somewhat I'm hoping J.J. Abrams will make the spirit of The Cage live again, recreate it for our 2009 world. We'll see soon enough .

He won't. Rumor has it once this movie does well enough they'll be making 2 more sequels (at least) and reboots/remakes tend to shove aside canon as if it never happened.

I want all the details on history to stay intact. Captain Pike, the USS Constellation, the Doomsday Machine... Just watch, this film will take it's own route.

The previews for this movie make the series look like shit.

I am actually looking forward to this.

This is a "hollywood" kind of rumour that always show its head whenever a big potential trilogy is out there, seen it for Xmen, Matrix, etc. It's mainly due to how they set up "creative" contracts in this industry.

Given how J.J. Abrams sort of "reinvented" the mythical xfiles with Fringe (that's my opinion, he said he wasn't doing that), I believe he can make a big difference. Now the real important factor is the trekkies' reaction, and they're a very, very tricky bunch of people to convince...

But I agree with you, this movie will create a new path. That's actually what I'm hoping for, what I was suggesting is that we get the same spirit of exploration, curiosity and "higher-level problems" (funny how technology only don't work in ST when it brings an interesting situation ) that we loved in the original series.

But the new series brings unforgetable episodes like "Trials and Tribble-ations" .

That's it, tomorrow is the day, where they'll boldly go where no man has gone before.

Epic trailer 3: http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/startrek/hd/

(I'm listening in loops to the trailer music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igqW_...eature=related )

Very positive review (from a well-known movie reviewer):
